What Are Probiotics?
Probiotics are live microorganisms—in other words, “friendly” bacteria—that are similar to the microflora naturally found in the intestines and digestive tract. The lower gastrointestinal tract of a healthy adult contains a community of about 400 types of bacteria that are estimated to outnumber human cells by a factor of ten to one. Not all bacteria are harmful “germs;” many strains, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, can help maintain the natural balance within your gut.
Adding healthy bacteria back into your system also helps reduce the growth of harmful bacteria, promoting strong digestive health. In fact, probiotics have been used for a long time throughout history by eating fermented foods and cultured milk products. Yogurt with live cultures contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, the largest and most well-known strain of probiotic bacteria found in the intestines.
Why Choose Culturelle?
Culturelle helps enhance intestinal comfort by alleviating common GI symptoms such as occasional bloating, diarrhea, gas, cramps, and poor digestion. Many of these symptoms arise because of foods we eat, stress, medications, and travel—and they can upset the bacterial balance in your gut. Replenishing with probiotics, such as Culturelle, helps restore that balance.
For a probiotic to be effective, it must survive passing through the stomach until it reaches the intestinal tract. Not only has Culturelle demonstrated the ability to survive this journey, it’s also guaranteed to provide at least 10 billion live, active cells of Lactobacillus GG in every capsule.

Our intestines are responsible for absorption of food, hydration balance, elimination, and more. To achieve this, our intestinal walls contain millions of bacteria, some of which are beneficial—and some of which are not. Managing the balance between the two is key for overall digestive and immune health. Culturelle replenishes the good bacteria and displaces the non-beneficial bacteria to promote a healthy intestinal balance.
Culturelle can be used to prevent occasional diarrhea, gas, cramping, and bloating on an everyday basis and in response to taking antibiotics. Antibiotics not only kill illness-causing bacteria, but they also kill the good bacteria that promote good digestion and elimination. Taking probiotics alongside antibiotics can help reintroduce the lost beneficial bacteria back into your body.
Clinical Support For Probiotics
In 2008, the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases published an issue on probiotics, stating that there is strong evidence supporting the efficacy of probiotics for acute diarrhea and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Also noted were the promising applications for dental health, nasal health, and a balanced inflammatory response in the bowels.
Other potential future applications that are being studied with promise include support for a balanced inflammatory response in the bowels and benefits for liver health
Culturelle is a patented, clinically-demonstrated probiotic used in over 400 research studies. Research has shown that Culturelle improves immune health and lessens the incidences of diarrhea associated with certain medications, bowel irritation, malnutrition, and more.
Other Benefits of Culturelle
A decrease in good bacteria can lead to microbial flora imbalances in the vaginal and urinary tract. Culturelle can help prevent these imbalances, as well as imbalances in the digestive tract. It can also help promote a balanced inflammatory response.
More benefits of Culturelle include:
- Improved digestion
- Restoration of intestinal balance by replenishing good bacteria
- Boosted immune health
- Balanced inflammatory response
- Supported structural integrity of intestinal walls
- Diminished occasional diarrhea
- Less worrying about “traveler’s intestines”
- Regular bowel movements
Whether you’re traveling, at home, at work, or at school—if you’re looking to support your digestive and immune health, keep Culturelle at your side.

How to store
Unlike yogurt and other probiotic brands, Culturelle® comes to you specially packaged - each capsule is individually double-foil-protected and packed in such a way to keep light, moisture, heat and air out - so it can be stored at room temperature. No refrigeration necessary.
Keeping your Culturelle® in a fridge or freezer will increase its shelf life but is not required. Also, it is important not to expose it to high heat, humidity or direct sunlight.
I get the “traveller’s diarrhoea” whenever I’m overseas and I can’t tolerate street food as well as other people. Culturelle works really well for me; I take 1 capsule everyday and I no longer suffer from food poisoning every time I travel. The packing also makes it convenient to bring overseas.
