Heart and Cardiovascular
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death world-wide, and they are estimated to be responsible for 50% of all deaths. The root cause of many cases of cardiovascular disease is a build up of atheroma - a fatty deposit within the inside lining of arteries. Lifestyle factors that reduce the risk of forming atheroma (atherosclerosis) include: not smoking, choosing healthy foods, low salt intake, regular physical activity, keeping your weight and waist size down, and drinking alcohol in moderation. Maintaining healthy levels of blood pressure and cholesterol are also important.
